There is nothing permanent except change… Heraclitus, Greek Philosopher

Thinking about the fact that “the new normal is always temporary” is comforting when I remember the situations that impact my life. The first time I realized that everything was shifting and changing, I gave up the notion that everything would remain improved and static. Then, finally, a sign of relief that mastering change was the hidden gift. Life goes on (until it doesn’t) and unfolds in unpredictable ways. Some results are wonderful surprises, some challenges present themselves and aren’t the best option, some things happen unexpectedly and the search for stability, sameness, predictability starts all over again and the cycle goes on. In the meantime, resilience is enhanced, and we become stronger, more loving people. This is in between fits of disappointment and anger. Some of the most important lessons and gifts that are important to me:

  • Life unfolds
  • When my attitude changes – my life changes
  • Gratitude feeds my soul
  • Thriving is better than surviving

Resiliency is a quality one must feed and nurture. It cannot be phony or pretended. It deems flexibility and skill. It is a trait to be proud of and one that we get opportunities to flex each day. When life throws a curveball, we can reach for it or we can let it go. We trust there will be another ball that is thrown, and we will get many chances.

“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”
